TRICERA and EEW sign contract for the construction of a battery storage facility

New business segment: Battery storage project starts at the traditional energy location Premnitz
Energy from Waste GmbH (EEW) is opening up a new business segment: Together with TRICERA energy, the company is realizing a large-scale battery storage system for the first time. An energy storage facility with a capacity of 15 megawatt hours (MWh) and an output of 7 megawatts (MW) is being built in Premnitz. The city of Premnitz describes itself as a “city full of energy” – this project continues this tradition. For EEW, this is a milestone on the way to greater flexibility and sustainability in the energy market.
“With the battery storage project in Premnitz, we are breaking new ground and at the same time sending a strong signal: EEW is expanding its portfolio and investing in innovative storage solutions. In doing so, we are not only contributing to grid stability, but also developing our plant fleet into flexible storage power plants that supply electricity when the wind is not blowing and the sun is not shining. We are a partner of the energy transition in the volatile electricity markets of the future,” says Timo Poppe, CEO of EEW.
The battery storage system has multiple uses: It stabilizes the electricity grid by absorbing or releasing electricity at short notice. It also participates in electricity trading. This means that EEW can store surplus electricity when there is a lot of green energy in the grid and then supply it when demand is high. This means that electricity is available exactly when it is needed.
Lars Fallant, COO of TRICERA energy, adds: “Important levers for short-term success in the energy transition are the use of free grid capacities and the flexibilization of existing power plant locations. In this respect, the project impressively demonstrates how battery storage can serve as a complementary solution for sustainable and economical energy management. We are delighted to have the opportunity to implement this innovative project together with EEW.”
The project in Premnitz will be implemented with vigor in the coming months. Both companies want to use the project to make a contribution to the energy transition and at the same time exploit economic prospects in a dynamic market environment
