Construction Begins on the EEW Group’s First Battery Storage Facility in Premnitz
Premnitz, July 31, 2025
Construction has begun on TRICERA energy’s battery storage project for EEW Energy from Waste GmbH at its Premnitz site. A storage system with a capacity of 15 megawatt-hours and a power output of seven megawatts is being built. The project marks a decisive step in the strategic evolution of EEW’s base-load power plants toward flexible storage power plants.
The first milestone of the project is the construction of the foundation, which is set to begin in the coming days. Delivery and installation of the storage modules are scheduled for the fall, with commissioning set for the fourth quarter of this year. EEW is investing several million euros in the construction of the battery storage facility. It represents an important milestone that is intended to pave the way for storage solutions at other EEW sites.
“With the battery storage facility in Premnitz, we are consistently advancing our plants,” explains Joachim Manns, COO and member of the EEW Group’s Executive Board. “We are making our power plants fit for the future: They remain a stable pillar of the energy supply, but in the future they will be able to store energy flexibly and feed it back into the grid when it is needed. In this way, we are expanding our business and making an even greater contribution to the stability of the power supply.”
Lars Fallant, COO of TRICERA energy, adds: “We are very pleased with how smoothly the project has progressed so far and with the professional collaboration with our colleagues at EEW. You can sense that the company is passionate about this forward-looking project. It’s great to see that more and more companies are positioning themselves more flexibly for the future and view battery storage as part of the solution.”
With the integration of battery storage, EEW is pursuing a clear strategy:
The existing base-load power plants are being expanded so that they can respond flexibly to future demands for electricity, process steam, and district heating in an increasingly volatile energy market. The Premnitz site serves as a blueprint for further developing the technology within the group and tapping into energy trading as a new business segment.
