The brief
With the battery storage project in collaboration with TRICERA energy, Elli and PowerCo are reaching an important milestone for the Volkswagen Group’s energy strategy. Elli will commission its first large-scale stationary storage system at PowerCo’s Salzgitter site in December 2025.
PowerCo’s LFP battery packs in the Unified Cell Format will together deliver 20 MW of power and 40 MWh of storage capacity, providing a scalable platform for energy trading and future grid services.
With the PowerCenter in Salzgitter, Elli is entering a new business segment along the energy value chain and evolving from a charging and energy provider into a provider of flexibility and energy solutions. The PowerCenter forms part of Volkswagen’s holistic battery ecosystem: research, cell production, stationary storage and, in future, second life and recycling. All under one roof.
Why this is important: Large-scale storage systems are key to balancing the fluctuating supply of renewable energy with demand. By building and operating such systems, the Volkswagen Group is becoming a central interface between the automotive industry and the energy sector.
