The brief
With the battery storage project in Premnitz, Energy from Waste GmbH (EEW) is entering a new business sector: in collaboration with TRICERA energy, the company is implementing its first large-scale battery storage system.
An energy storage facility with a capacity of 15 megawatt-hours (MWh) and a power output of 7 megawatts (MW) is being built in Premnitz. The town of Premnitz describes itself as a ‘town full of energy’ – this project continues that tradition. For EEW, this marks a milestone on the path towards greater flexibility and sustainability in the energy market.
The battery storage system serves multiple purposes: it stabilises the electricity grid by absorbing or releasing electricity at short notice. It also participates in electricity trading. This means that EEW can store surplus electricity when there is a lot of green energy on the grid and then make it available when demand is high. In this way, electricity is available exactly when it is needed.
