{"id":4628,"date":"2026-01-29T15:34:31","date_gmt":"2026-01-29T14:34:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tricera.energy\/?post_type=portfolio&#038;p=4628"},"modified":"2026-04-30T15:39:54","modified_gmt":"2026-04-30T13:39:54","slug":"villingen-schwenningen-public-utilities-battery-storage","status":"publish","type":"portfolio","link":"https:\/\/tricera.energy\/en\/villingen-schwenningen-public-utilities-battery-storage\/","title":{"rendered":"SVS and TRICERA sign contract to build a large-scale battery storage system"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Villingen-Schwenningen, January 29, 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stadtwerke Villingen-Schwenningen GmbH (SVS) and TRICERA energy, the general contractor (EPC) and system integrator for large-scale battery storage systems, have signed a contract to construct two modern, high-performance large-scale battery storage systems at locations in the Villingen-Schwenningen area.<\/p>\n<p>In the first phase, the battery storage specialist is responsible for preparing and submitting the building permit application for both projects. In the second phase, the company will act as the EPC for the planning, manufacturing, delivery, installation, and commissioning of the turnkey, functional large-scale battery storage systems. The systems, which together will have a usable capacity of 30 MWh and an output of 15 MW, are intended to participate in energy trading and also serve primary and secondary control power.<\/p>\n<p>Detailed planning for the battery storage project has begun, with commissioning currently scheduled for late fall 2026. In total, SVS is investing around 10 million euros in the two battery storage systems.<\/p>\n<p>SVS Managing Director Gregor G\u00fclpen emphasizes the importance of battery storage: \u201cThey are a crucial component of the energy transition and our mission \u2018Toward Green Zero.\u2019\u201d \u201cThanks to this ingenious storage technology, we can store electricity generated from wind and solar power during periods of high generation and release it during periods of low generation,\u201d explains G\u00fclpen. \u201cAs the expansion of renewable energies progresses, large-scale storage systems will gain in importance, as they will be absolutely essential for managing the power supply. A second reason, which we must of course not overlook, is the excellent cost-effectiveness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Project and SVS Division Manager Sebastian Wilhelm highlights another advantage of large-scale battery storage: \u201cBeyond the advantages mentioned, battery storage systems are also a space-saving, compact, and above all, land-efficient storage medium. I\u2019m deliberately simplifying it: We\u2019re building foundations at two strategically well-located sites\u2014in the immediate vicinity of substations\u2014setting up eight shipping containers, installing batteries inside them that correspond to the energy capacity of 300 fully charged electric vehicles, connecting the storage systems to our grid, and off we go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lars Fallant, Managing Director of TRICERA energy, adds: \u201cRegionally connected municipal utilities and TRICERA energy now have several successful projects under their belt. We were all the more pleased that we were also able to convince Stadtwerke Villingen-Schwenningen of our expertise for their two projects. The battery storage projects of SVS and the Th\u00fcga Group demonstrate that municipal utilities are on a progressive path when it comes to the energy transition.
